Tybee Turtle Trot

Tybee Island is known for its loggerhead sea turtle habitat and education center. The habitat takes in turtles that have been injured by boat propellers, attacked by sharks, etc., and then releases them back into the ocean when they're ready.

I ran the Tybee Turtle Trot 5K this morning, which was sponsored by the center. The weather was absolutely beautiful! Considering I just recently started running again after a much-needed hiatus, combined with the fact that I felt sick the whole race, I am pretty happy about my time: 27:43. It will at least give me a good baseline to know where I was at the beginning of my training, as I train for the Savannah Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon in November.

Feels good to get back into running. The honeysuckles and magnolias this time of year make it extra enjoyable!

You had to dodge these squishy creatures the entire race. There were at least 50 of them that had been washed up on shore.

What was so fun about the race is that afterwards they released 4 of the turtles into the ocean. I have always loved turtles, and these ones were especially cute how they would flap their fins around.

This one took 5 people to carry.

When they first set him down by the shoreline he made a 180 turn, I think a little scared by the crashing waves. Haha!

White Coat Ceremony

I recently had my White Coat Ceremony-- a cheesy program to recognize our role as future PAs and members of the medical team. I was so thankful to have my mom and sister come down for the weekend. Girl's weekends can never happen often enough.

Our city. Savannah has definitely won me over.

My love.

I never want to forget these times when white boards scribbled with medical explanations sit in our living room. Blake is the best (and most handsome) tutor around. It makes my heart smile every time I glance at this board and think how lucky I am to have him helping me become the best PA I can be.

look ma'...

I have bangs again!

It was one of those spontaneous moments of "heck-why-not". I think the last time I had bangs was when I was 12.

progress

The quilt is coming together-- slowly, but surely. Originally, it was my goal to complete it by the end of my break... but it looks like I'll have to make this a project over the course of multiple breaks. My plan is to put all of the quilt squares together, and they will form the backing of the quilt. The front will have a pretty design. I still have a ways to go...

I mentioned previously that I lost 2 grandparents this past year. My parents made this recent Christmas very special by giving us some momentos that belonged to my grandparents. From my grandmother, I was given her sewing sheers. I just love the ornate design on them and the way they have 2 tiny holes to string a ribbon through, so it can be worn around your neck. I've been wearing them whenever I'm at my sewing machine to cut the loose strings or make little adjustments. It's so neat to not only have something from my grandma, but to actually be able to use it.
